„The Internet was meant to be free.”
The Internet is so successful because it’s open and has the potential to be developed and evolve. We can all surf it to better understand the world, conduct research and communicate with each other. But this neutrality is under threat because exactly what we uncover on the web is dictated by a few powerful search engines.
These search engines work neither openly nor transparently. And they’ve become so powerful, they decide what information they give us and how they use our data. Over ninety percent of all search queries in Europe run on a single search engine! And the same is true in many other parts of the world.
Such power, in the hands of a few commercial or state-run companies, is an invitation to abuse and manipulation.
We want to change that by bringing more diversity to Internet search, so that we continue to work, learn, research and live freely on the web of the future.
