Another month, another podcast. At the beginning of May, we were guests on the Golem IT podcast “Besser Wissen”, which provides weekly updates on innovations in the fields of technology and science.

In the episode with the enticing title “Will the European search engine come – how an independent search index is being created”, podcast host Martin Wolff spoke with our OSF board member Dr. Stefan Voigt as well as Prof. Dr. Michael Granitzer about the current search engine landscape.

Needless to say that the federated project OpenWebSearch.eu, which is run by the Open Search Foundation, the University of Passau and 12 other European partners from research and business, was also mentioned.

Particularly exciting: the OpenWebSearch.eu project is in its hot phase. In the coming weeks, the open European web index, which was developed over the course of two years within the project, will be officially piloted for R&D projects.

The official launch event, which is scheduled for 6 June, will be a great opportunity for interested parties from economy, research and civil society to inform themselves about the possibilities of accessing the open web index for their own IT projects.

The idea behind an open web index is to democratize access to knowledge on the Internet, strengthen European digital sovereignty and improve the quality of search results through plurality in the search engine segment.

You can find out why the OpenWebSearch.eu team relies on federated, collaborative solutions and why the Open Web Index represents real pioneering work in the podcast episode. Click on the link (and please note that the episode was recorded in German only):
